The past few months, had felt like several years of Sara Tancredi's life. She was tired. Drained. Physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted . . . and yet she could not find peace or come by rest easily. Far too much had happened . . . far too much had been lost . . . and for those reasons, Sara dreaded the night where as she lay down, it was a constant reminder of everything that she did not have. Yet, she did have that one motivation, that huge motivation that encouraged her to keep going and so if it weren't for the baby slowly growing inside of her, she would have lost it some time ago.
Paul had revealed everything and though it took several weeks, Sara was finally exonerated of her charges of murder. Despite this freedom, she never fully felt comfortable. She still looked over her shoulder, still succumbed to the paranoia that was now second nature to her. And with no one protecting her it was all the more risky. She was not sure what was possible. There may still be some agents from the company lurking around, wanting to get their ultimate revenge. There was always the possibility of someone chasing after them, and that was why Sara had waited a couple of months before visiting her closest friend . . . and one of the very few people she had left in the world.
She did not know how Juliánna would react to seeing her. Sara had not contacted her all during the time she was on the run, or in prison in Miami . . . she couldn't. She could not jeopardize her or Juli?nna's life in any way. Sara had learned that the hard way from what happened to her father and then Bruce. But now . . . maybe . . . hopefully it would be different. With that hope and faith in her mind, Sara knocked on Juli?nna's door. Sara was dressed in jeans and a very casual shirt. Most of the bruises on her face from her beat down in Miami-Dade had healed. Her hair was loose and this time, while it was brushed, she really did not care about her appearance. It was late at night, but this to Sara seemed like the best time to come. After knocking, she looked around making sure that no one was watching her. She lowered her head, anxious and nervous to see her friend.

The only reason Juli?nna heard the knock was because she was on the couch, asleep. She woken up at the sounds of the knocking and was surprised to find her self here. Juli?nna liked order and everything in it's place. He did this! He was turning her life up side down! Juli?nna reached over and grabbed her cell phone to look at the time, and to check to see if she missed the call. No, he had not called, which meant he was still working, or at the door. Being it was late, she was going with the later.
Dressed in solid black colored cotton PJ pants and a sweater, Juli?nna got up and moved to the door. "You should learn to use a phone, it would have saved you the trouble of driving over here only to get sent to your own house." Juli?nna opened the door, "Cause we are not talking about this ton---SARA!" Juli?nna had not even thought that Sara could be at her door! So much had happened since Sara decided she was saver on the run with Michael then safe here, and left with out a word! Juli?nna had heard Sara was in Jail, but by the time she had gotten to Miami Sara was gone leaving . . . . . Juli?nna didn't want to think down that line, but as she tended to do (and what seemed her role in the past few months) she started working on cleaning up the mess Michael Scofield had made. "Sara?!"

Sara gave her a small smile. She was still nervous, nervous enough to not ask who she was expecting at this late hour. She stood there awkwardly. "Hi . . . um . . I . . . how are you?" She asked, not knowing what else to say. All she knew was that she was so happy, so relieved to see Juliánna. To see that she was safe, and to see that she didn't get sucked into the chaos of the conspiracy that most everyone they had connections to were forced into. She wanted to give her a hug, but for some reason found it difficult to move. Once she was past the shock, would Juliánna be angry with her? Would she understand if Sara tried to explain things to her?
Maybe Sara should have called first. Maybe the shock and confusion would be all too much. Maybe this whole thing was a bad idea. Either way, Sara was going to find out soon enough. If Juliánna did not invite her in, she could not blame her. She would fully understand.

Juli?nna stood there for a moment just staring with this slightly dumbfounded look on her face before she shook her head hard and blinked a few times. "Sara!? What are you doing here?" Juli?nna moved back to allow Sara to enter. "Last I hear you were . . . " Escaping jail. "Are you ok?" Juli?nna wasn't one to use more vulgar language but; "You look like hell!"
Once Sara entered, Juli?nna shut and locked the door, "Do you want something to drink or eat or . . . anything?" Juli?nna reached out slowly to put her hand on Sara's arm to show some comfort but didn't know if she should risk hugging her. Sara looked like hell and Juli?nna didn't want to make Sara uncomfortable in any way.

Sara was utterly relieved when Juliánna permitted her to enter. She was not underestimating her friend's kindness, she was just worried that her actions had been too much for Juliánna to accept . . . something she would not blame her for. "Thanks," she said entering, her smile growing a little. She was not the same person she had once been. She was not who she was when she first met Juli?nna; she was not that same excited doctor who felt like she was making a difference in the world by going overseas to help the less fortunate. She was not the same doctor who had once worked with Juliánna at Fox River. She would never be that person again, and so her mind wandered to how that would effect their current friendship.
Sara couldn't help but let out a very short laugh at Juli?nna's comment on her appearance. It was true. Sara knew she looked terrible, but putting energy and effort into her appearance was not something she cared about these days. "I'm fine." No. That was a lie, but Sara did not want to explain everything right now. She did not know how much Juliánna knew, nor did she want to blurt everything out at once. Right now, she was just enjoying her company. Sara put her hand on Juli?nna's arm, returning the half hug. "No um, thank you . . . I'm . . . I'm alright. How have you and Gabby been? Its um, its been a while."

Sara disappeared for months and she comes back with a 'it's been a while'? "Yeah, it has. Were have you been?" Juli?nna asked still feeling shocked to her core. "We've been fine," At lest compaired to Sara, "We've just been peachy. Sara maybe you better come in and sit down. Let me get you something to drink and then we can talk." Juli?nna didn't believe Sara was ok, not matter what she said. She looked like she wasn't sleeping, and ragged.
Juli?nna gently moved Sara to the couch area, "Sit, I will get you something to drink." Pause, "Don't leave!" Juli?nna then went to the kitchen and got two cups out and turned on the 'cocomotion' machine that would mix hot milk with coco to make hot chocolate. It took only a a few moments before Juli?nna was walking back with two cups of warm liquid.

Where has she been. Where hasn't she been? She has been all over . . . physically and emotionally. She did not know where she was going to stay, where she was going to raise her baby. Chicago had far too many painful memories and she doubted she would ever feel fully safe here. Panama . . . it held equally painful memories. Was there anywhere that she could go where she would be content? No. Not since she lost her husband. No place would be her home. "Thanks," she said in a soft voice as she took the drink from Juli?nna gratefully.
She looked into the glass, staring at the drink while her mind was in a million different places. "I just arrived in Chicago a little while ago. Your place was my first stop. I um . . . " She took a bit of a deep breath. "I hope I'm not intruding, and that this . . . me being her isn't . . . " She didn't know how to describe it. She couldn't express the words she was trying to say, or make sense of the thoughts in her mind. "I'm sorry," she added, unable to look Juli?nna straight in the eyes, though her apology was a sincere one.

"No! Your not!" Juli?nna assured her. "You can stay here, for a while if you need to. I have that extra room, the couch folds out into a bed." Juli?nna noticed again how Sara looked like she had not gotten any sleep. "You look tired, Sara. Do you want to try to sleep before talking? Are you sure your ok?!" Juli?nna took a sip of her drink, while watching Sara.
It was shocking how much her life had changed from a year ago when Sara came into her like and even in the last few months. Juli?nna know that no matter how much her life had changed Sara's had changed more. Being on the run, hunted, and whatever sort of relationship Sara had with Michael; had to be allot on a person.

Sleep. If only. Sleep could have been her only escape from all the painful memories, but no. She could not do that. "Thank you," she repeated. Even if she was an inconvenience, she really just wanted to spend time with one of the few people left that she knew she could trust . . . and besides, Sara had terribly missed her dear friend. She felt comfortable here. Not safe, no place was safe, but she felt comfortable, and that was something rare. "No, I'm alright. I . . . if you really don't mind me staying, just for a few days, I would love to." She looked down once again at the beverage in her hand.
"Tell me, whats new with you?" She wanted to catch up on Juli?nna's life. She wanted to know that someone, somewhere was happy, and safe, and not traumatized over being tortured or losing someone they cared about. Those kind of people were all Sara had had to surround herself with for the past several months . . . Juli?nna could be that example. That there were still people out there, untouched by the Company. Or so, that's what Sara hoped and that Juli?nna had not encountered any difficulties.

Juli?nna paused when Sara asked that and looked down at her cup. That wasn't an easy thing to answer and Juli?nna was not going to dump her troubles on an already troubled woman. It was easy to see that Sara was not handling this well. Juli?nna knew of Michael's death but was not going to bring it up until Sara did. "Nothing really. Just been worried for you." It was a lie, Juli?nna's life had been turned around in both her professional and personal areas but she wasn't sure if they were both bad things.
"I've been writing a book." Juli?nna said so that way she could give Sara something in a way of an answer, in hopes that it would get them talking and Sara would give her something in response about her own past few months.

Had it been? How chaotic had her Juli?nna's life really become after the escape of the fugitives . . . and furthermore, when they had been on the run for so long, before they were exonerated. Sara wanted to question her further, but her next statement distracted Sara. She looked at her, a very subtle smile on her lips. "Really?" Wow. Good for her. Good for Juli?nna. Sara was so happy for her friend . . . even if she understating how things had been, she was alright, and Gabby was hopefully alright as well.
"What's it about?" She asked, genuinely curious even if her voice lacked the enthusiasm and excitement that she know she should fully be expressing. Sara could not be overly excited about anything these days, but a book. That would certainly be another achievement to add to Juli?nna's list. "I better get an autographed copy when it is published," she added, trying to lighten the mood, no matter how difficult or painful it was. Sara did not want to break down in front of her friend . . . not right now . . . not when she has finally seen her again after so long.

Did Sara plan to be around that long? If she was then that was a good sign. Juli?nna wondered if Sara planned to learn again 'for her own good' or if she was here to face things and let Juli?nna help? Juli?nna hoped it was the later one because she knew she could help Sara allot, and she wanted to try! They were friends! Perhaps not as close as they once thought, but close enough that emotions came into play!
"Nothing fun, I assure you." Juli?nna said with a bit of a blush. "It's just something I have been doing in my spare time, trying to keep my mind from over thinking." Juli?nna used to let her mind run on a million things. She would think on people's actions and inmates she was studying, and co-workers. She judged everyone and the longer she knew them the more she got into their heads. She was trying to stop.

"Well writing definitely is a good way to focus on something else . . . apart from daily stresses. How long have you been working on it for?" Sara asked, wondering if it had been something that Juli?nna had been working on when they worked together, and she just found herself having more time to work on it recently. The thought of sitting down and reading a book was very appealing to Sara. She hadn't been reading much of anything lately . . . and that was something she missed. It was odd how the minor things seemed to hit her the most; perhaps it was still a way of denying the major things she had lost.
"Hows Gabby doing?" She suddenly found herself asking. With Gabby's . . . special circumstances, she knew that it was hard for Juli?nna to be a single mom while juggling work and not to mention recent events that most probably called for her attention. Sara hoped everything was going alright with her; that she had been safe from all this and that neither of them had any unpleasant encounters with dangerous people aka, agents from the Company.

"Not long, a few weeks." She admitted, "I am even sure if it's something I plan to keep doing. I just . . . . . need to stop thinking." And writing had helped. It had let her but everything going on in her life aside for a few hours and worry about someone's else's troubles. Someone who wasn't real, and the only pain they felt was the few words she wrote to describe it.
"Gabby is . . . . .. . fine." Juli?nna said after a long pause in the middle. "She is a tough kid." And she was to be able to handle the world she lived in. "She asked about you allot in the begging." It had died off some, thanks to the distractions in their lives now, but Gabby still asked about Sara, and asked when she was coming over again. Juli?nna wondered if it was ok to let Sara back around Gabby? She knew in her heart that Sara would never hurt Gabby but if Sara disappeared again it would only confuse Gabby more, and make her miss Sara again. Make her Sad again.

Sara felt bad. "Makes sense. I hope it helped, and just . . . distracted you enough to not have to be consumed and pulled into all the . . . craziness that had happened." Sara didn't think she needed to go into detail about that. They both knew. There were some things that just didn't need to be repeated. "So tell me about your book . . . whats it about?" Sara didn't even know if it was fiction, non fiction. She wanted to hear about it; hear more about the less dramatic things in life.
And then Sara felt even worse. Children grew attached to people, and suddenly disappearing like that . . . "She is a tough kid," Sara said with a bit of a smile, though it soon faded. "I'm so sorry," she apologized, knowing it wasn't much. She wasn't sure of sorry really meant anything anymore; if it would ever be enough. But it was all she could say. "I . . . wish I could have come . . . but it wasn't safe. I couldn't . . . I would never be able to forgive myself if something happened to you or Gabby." Thinking about Mahone, and how he had lost his son, was a prime example of how serious the Company took themselves; that they were willing to kill an innocent little child who had nothing to do with what had happened.
